Fledglings Swim Levels
The Fledglings Coordinators and Head Coaches group our Fledglings based on parent-provided information about comfort in the water and prior swim experience.
Below are descriptions of the different swim levels and what children at these levels can expect to learn in Fledglings:
- Beginner - Children should be comfortable interacting with coaches/peers for the duration of the session without a parent within arms reach. Coaches will focus on easing beginners slowly and comfortably into the fledglings swim program. The ultimate goal is for all our new swimmers to love being in the water! During the season, your swimmer will become comfortable in the pool, blow bubbles in the water, learn breath control, and even begin to float.
- Intermediate - Children at this level are comfortable going underwater and floating on their front and back. During the season, your swimmer will learn to power their swimming with efficient leg/arm movements and begin drills that form the foundation for a good freestyle! Backstroke drills may also be introduced to some intermediate groups.
- Advanced - Children at this level have the ability to propel themselves in the water and are comfortable in areas of the pool where they cannot stand. Advanced groups work on stroke development and technique. Coaches will focus on good swim habits and proper form at this level, getting Fledglings excited to swim all four competitive strokes as members of the Ravens Swim Team! Advanced Fledglings may be invited to compete in a swim team developmental ("B") meet toward the end of the season.
