Welcome to the Ravens!
The Ravensworth Ravens Swim Team, who will compete in Division 5 this summer, is open to all children who are current members of the pool (ages 4 to 18).
RAVENS are members of the swim team who are comfortable in all strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly) and are able to swim the length of the pool legally without stopping in two strokes.
FLEDGLINGS are our youngest swimmers who are learning to enjoy the water in a fun atmosphere and build proficiency in beginning swim strokes. Fledglings must be at least 4 years old by September 1. While there is no age limit for fledglings, most kids move up to swim team around the age of 7 or 8.
Ravensworth Farm Swim & Racquet Club (RFS&RC), located in Springfield, joined the NVSL in 1964. The goal of the Ravens Swim Team align with those of the NVSL: To develop in the children participating in this program a love for the sport, advanced aquatic skills, teamwork, and the principles of good sportsmanship.
The Ravens are a family swim team. Many parents of our swimmers grew up in the neighborhood and came back to raise their own children in this great neighborhood. Many parents also grew up swimming in the NVSL and know the value of spending the hot days of summer swimming with the team and hanging out at the pool, where you can always find a friend to spend time with. All of our Assistant Coaches and Deck Coaches are Ravens who love the team and the sport, setting an example for the next generation to swim into their shoes.
Throughout its 55-year history, many activities became “traditions,” eagerly embraced by swimmers each season. Perhaps the oldest such event is the Friday pep rallies which have many themes, including Blue & Gold, Halloween in July, Seniors. Young and old participate enthusiastically. Other favorite traditions include Pancake Breakfasts every Friday morning after practice, water polo, the talent show, Swim for Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund, Senior Sacks, and the end of the year banquet.
